Media Mayhem

Today definitely challenged me on a whole new level. I am finding the amount of information given to us during the lecture-type whole DFI meet unhelpful and to be frank time-wasting. I appreciate my tutor Kelsey immensely as she is able to guide me without making me feel overwhelmed or zone out. I am so glad I was put in her group.

I feel I understand the pedagogy or Manaiakalani and don't need another massive talk about it next week. Let's get into more create!

I loved the google draw tutorial with Kelsey and am definitely going to have some fun with the students who have Chromebooks. I am really excited about making our Vision map digital with our Taiao warriors. I think if I spend some time looking back at the slides from this session I will be able to pick up some more useful tips.

There was some good information about the visual aspect of slides that I can take into my own presentations. I am a little confused as to what media to use- Slides or Google Draw? but I think after some playtime I will discover my favourite.

A colleague today suggested I invest in some blue filter glasses as I have been experiencing headaches after this Friday in front of a screen. I think I will try that next week.
Here are some cute dogs for you. Nga mihi.

  1. Hi Caitlin, I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed too with the amount of links and videos or slideshows that have been made accessible to us. Where am I going to find the time to go through them all! But I suppose they are there for when we are looking for an answer to a particular question we may have.

  2. Kia ora Caitlin.
The reason it is called the Digital Fluency Intensive is because there will be loads of information given each week to expose you to all the possibilities of the Google suite and then you can store that knowledge and put it into your lessons as it fits. There are limitations to all the tools, so the more you use them, you will be able to choose which will work better. Don't stress too much if you can't take it all in as the reason you have the videos is to make the learning rewindable and you can revisit it at a later date. Enjoy the create sessions to explore the tools and remember you can always call on me if you need some support.

  3. Morena Caitlin, yes the DFI is full on to cater for all needs. I made sure that I kept all the day agendas and links in one place to use for rewindable learning. I completed the DFI early 2019 and still go back and use the valuable resources and notes that I took that were shared with us on each day. Enjoy the next 6 weeks. It is fantastic PD which can be used for a long time after the fact.

  4. Kia ora Caitlin,
Thanks so much for your kind praise - I think the bubble setting makes the online DFI so valuable.
The lecture type sessions, don't suit everyone - but not all learners are the same. They certainly fill you with lots of ideas and opportunities. I think they are really important for giving the reasons why we do things, even if it does seem overwhelming.
Picking between draw and slides is a tough one - I use them both for such different things! (Slides are my preference if it needs to be blogged I think... Draw is super fun and creative).
I look forward to seeing these glasses on Friday! haha! I may need to invest in a pair. That time to step away from the computer is so important.
    Catch you on Friday!
